The seigniory of Valangin (from vallis angina because the town rises in the constriction of the valley), which until the tenth century was divided between the county of Vaud and that of Bargen, extended over the Val-de- Ruz for the most important part, the valley of La Sagne and the valley of La Chaux-de-Fonds.
